I bet your asking how do I earn my points?

Points are based on the energy expenditure of each activity (its MET — metabolic equivalent value). So the
more activity or the higher the intensity, the more points earned. The first thing you need to do is register online at www.presidentschallenge.org , join our group; Volleyball 4 Youth (VB4Y) and start keeping a log of your activities. You will be able to check our groups activity level and see how you and your teammates are doing.

This is a great way for the club players to earn awards and start conditioning for their up and coming season.

Most of our children have the opportunity at school to compete in the "Presidential Physical Fitness Test."

There are three award levels they can earn;

  1. The Participant Physical Fitness Award

    1. Those who attempt all five activities but have one or more scores below the 50th percentile are eligible for the Participant Award.

  2. The National Physical Fitness Award

    1. Those who achieve at least 50 percentile in all 5 activities qualify for the National Award.

  3. The Presidential Physical Fitness Award

    1. If they meet the qualifying standards in the 85th percentile in all 5 activities, they qualify for the Presidential Award.

  4. They get measured on;

    1. Curl-Ups or Partial Curl-Ups
    2. Shuttle Run
    3. Endurance Run
    4. Pull-Ups or Right Angle Push-ups, or Flex hang (only counts for the Participation and National Award)
    5. V-Sit Reach or the Sit and Reach.

    To see the specific percentiles for these test activities, you can also download the President’s Challenge Normative Data Spreadsheet at www.presidentschallenge.org Click on “Download Tools & Resources” and then see Forms.

Muscle Memory Training

Visualization plays a big part when i.e. training technical skills.

When athletes work on the specific skill, they should have their mind 100% on the skill and keep visualizing the skill while performing it. This helps players “to see” and imagine the correct completion of the skill.

When athletes “see and feel” the correct completion of the skill and have a clear motion picture in the mind about the skill, it helps them to notice mistakes - and also correct errors without coaches' help.
