VB4Y Forecast 12-1 2007 Tournament Results
January 14, 2007 NVVA Fairfax 12's Kickoff
We had a great first tournament in Northern Virginia. NVVA hosted the Fairfax 12's Kickoff on January 14, 2007 at Kilmer Middle School. The girls went up with 7 players. The tournament started at 8:30 am with the VB4Y Forecast starting against NVVA Loudoun 12N Lightning's. It was a great first match against the areas top 12's team. Our girls came out strong with no jitters! We won the first game and they didn't even know it they were having so much fun. NVVA came back strong, the next two games bounced back and forth point for point. We ended the match 1-2. Our next match was against NVVA Fairfax 12 B, the hosting team. Forecast was fired up about losing and won three games straight. We were on a role. The girls worked the next match, and then took the Columbia Canaries for three straight wins! Our girls were exhausted. They had just played 9 games and worked 3 games , it was 1:15 when they broke for lunch. With a 45 min break the girls were still tired and ready to go home, but we had 6 more games to play. our next match was against NVVA Fairfax 12C, the girls were still tired, but rallied to make our opponents work for every point. Even though the match was close we lost all three games. We had a chance to re group and worked the next match before our final games. Out last match was against the top seeded team, NVVA Loudoun 12 Select. This team had players that have been playing together all year long for several years. Plus they were big-which did not seem to bother our Forecast players one bit. We struggled the first game, lost in double digits. Made a late come in the second game, but it was not soon enough. The girls said they did not want to lose their last game and they powered through with incredible fortitude for a strong victory!
It was great to have parents and coaches from the other team coming to watch our newly developed team play. They could not believe this team wa just formed a few months ago! I was a very proud coach and parent. Coach Ashton was amazed by everyone's determination and abilities. She was able to keep some stats our first tournament. With the excitability and nerves of the first tournament she does not feel they are completely accurate, but it defiantly shows you were are strong force and have earned the name FORECAST!
Haley Beam came through with some great passes. She had over 39 serves, 17 aces, 8 service errors (that's less than one per game). We really depended on Haley to come through with that third hit when it counted most! She did a great job covering the court.
Ariel Walker serves was awesome. She had 59 serves with 30 aces and only 6 service errors out of 15 games! It was amazing to see such a young player at 9 years of age, serve overhand with such control and power! She had some incredible sets, as well as digs. The last game she finished the game with 17 overhand serves in the last game.
Nicole has that natural instinct to always be at the right place at the right time. she was always there to set up the play. Her underhand serves gave us 11 aces and over 51 serves. She even had a 14 point service run! With only 6 errors in 15 games. At 10 years old-watch out!
Sydney Hooper is a wonderful passer, she was focused throughout the day. She pulled off 20 serves, 4 aces and 7 errors. She was the rock of the team-
Hollie Soave was our Trojan Horse, she is so adorable on the court with her beautiful smile, and petite figure. The opponents thought she would be shy, but she showed them by passing almost every ball they hit her way. When she went back to serve they would move up and then be blow away by her serve. She had over 48 serves with 7 aces She wins the record of least amount of errors in a day -with only 3 service errors the entire day!
Breanna Sumner played libero for us at this tournament. when she became aggressive no ball hit the floor in her path. Nicole and Ariel started setting her back row for some great attacks. Libero is one of the hardest positions to play, and she did a great job!
Brianna Alexander is the one who keeps the girls laughing and having fun. She had over 27 serves with 4 aces and 8 errors. She had some wonderful passes and attacks.
We are very proud of your successes and look forward to making each one of you even stronger for our next match up!
