January 20, 2007 ODR RVC West Boys 14 Open
Our first year, our first event and it was a blast. The boys played great! We only had 6 players and they all did their job. Our first match was a great warm up to tournament life. We had to play our very own VB4Y Trojan 13's team. This was a good warm up for both teams. With minor adjustments to our defense we were able to win our first match. Roan, Karl and Nick were on serving streaks, and Nick, Carl and Brian had several attacks that sealed the match. Our second match was against Richmond Veer 14-1 team. The boys were fired up after their first victory and went on to win all three games against Veer. Zack came through with three attacks, followed by three from Karl. Everyone had serves that made an impact on our victory. Our last match was against Richmond Volleyball Cub 14-1 National team. Some of these guys have been playing together since they were 9 and 10. We lost all three games but we held our own and made them work for each and every point.
This was the first time Coach Sanders took stats, and with the excitement of our first tournament, they might not be completely accurate. Please be sure to thank him for all his efforts. He did a great job coaching!
Nick served 46 balls with 10 errors, 4 attacks
Brian had 28 serves with 8 serve errors, 12 attacks
Karl had 25 serves, with 7 serve errors, 10 attacks
Zach had 16 serves, 8 errors, and 4 attacks
Roan had 27 serves, 6 errors, and 1 attack
James had 19 serves, 8 errors, and 9 attacks
When the boys communicated is great to attack runs take place. Very few balls hit the floor without a touch. Nick did a nice job setting, Roan and Brian had some great digs, and James and Karl did a good job at the net. Zach got his hands on a lot of deep attacks and serves that kept us in the game.(Plus a couple of surprising attacks for points!)
We are looking forwards to our next match up in Richmond next month.
